**Malcolm Ronald Hawes**
*11 October 1947 – 21 May 2026*

Malcolm Ronald Hawes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on 21st May 2026, aged 78.

Born in Rochford on 11th October 1947 to Edna and Ron Hawes, Malcolm spent his entire life in the Rochford area, a place he loved deeply and where he became known and respected by so many. He grew up alongside his younger brother Graham, with whom he shared a lifelong bond.

Malcolm left school at the age of 15 and began work as a draughtsman. Through determination, hard work and natural talent, he built a successful career in building design, eventually establishing and running his own business as a building design consultant. He took great pride in his work and the reputation he earned throughout the local community.

In 1968, Malcolm married the love of his life, Cynthia. Together they built a wonderful family and shared nearly six decades of marriage filled with love, laughter and unwavering support for one another. They went on to have two children, Steven and Nicola, who were always a source of immense pride to him.

Nothing brought Malcolm greater happiness than his family. He was a devoted grandfather to Charlotte, Ethan, Jacob and Calum, and treasured every moment spent with them. Whether on family holidays, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying time together, those moments meant everything to him.

Sport played a huge part in Malcolm’s life. A passionate supporter of Manchester United from the age of ten, he rarely missed following his beloved team. In his younger years, he played football for Rochford Athletic until a knee injury sadly cut short his playing days.

Golf, however, became his lifelong passion. Malcolm was an active and much-loved member of Ballards Gore Golf Club for over 40 years. During that time, he served as Club Captain in 1989 and later as President in 2015. At the time of his passing, he held the cherished title of Captain of Captains — a reflection of the enormous respect and affection in which he was held by fellow members and friends alike.

Malcolm embraced life fully. He loved travelling, enjoyed good company, and was never happier than when surrounded by family and friends with a glass of red wine in hand. He will be remembered for his warmth, humour, loyalty, generosity, and the steady presence he brought to the lives of those around him.

He leaves behind a family who adored him, countless friends, and a community that will miss him greatly.

Malcolm will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
