Sad news regarding Joe. He used to come into our shop in Healey Lane. I found him great company for a natter and a good laugh. Just found him to be a really nice guy.

Thank you uncle Joe, for letting us play in your green mini when you parked outside Lime Tree, climbing all over the interior as we pretended to drive to Blackpool. Thank you for taking me to my uni interview in York, waiting hours till it finished, then gifting me with a memento - a piece of timber you’d taken from an ancient wooden statue in the Minster. Thank you for taking me to see Schindler’s List, for passing on poetry books and novels. Thank you for your love of music and art and posters about workers rights. Thank you for your sense of justice, fairness and dignity.
In spite of a this you could also be a crank, but that’s a Colleran trait and easy to forgive. You were too modest to hear me say that I’m proud to call you my uncle, or too embarrassed maybe to hear me say I love you. So I never said either, but now I can do both! Rest in peace and rise in Glory Joe xx

  • That’s so lovely Claire. He was a very private person, but so kind. Thank you also to our Mark Jones who has been a constant support for decades. RIP Uncle Joe xxx
