It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Patricia “Pat” Barber on Friday 8th May at Alton Place Residential Home, with her beloved daughters Joanne and Trudie by her side.

Patricia was born in Scarborough to William E. Hopwood and Kitty Paget Rogers. She was the devoted and loving wife of John, a wonderful mum to Joanne and Trudie, and a cherished grandma to Francesca.

Pat was also a much-loved aunt to Sarah, Lynda and Julia, a dear sister-in-law to Josie and Mick, a loving mother-in-law to Des and Damon, and a treasured friend to many.

Throughout her life, Pat found great joy in helping others and had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Whether organising, supporting or creating something special, she approached everything with warmth, kindness and dedication. This was especially evident through her involvement with convent reunions and in the support she gave to her husband John at North Cliff Golf Club.

Pat worked in many roles supporting children and families across Scarborough, where she was known for her caring nature and generous spirit.

Later in life, Pat and John moved to Petersfield to be closer to family, where they continued to build many valued friendships. Following the sad passing of John, Pat moved to Alton Place Residential Home, where she continued to enjoy singing, taking part in activities, and sharing her warmth and laughter with those around her.

Pat will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

  • Quite a few of you have commented on mums smiley face on her picture above, so I thought I should share the full picture. This was on the miniature railway in Scarborough.

We had some wonderful happy times together and miss both Pat and John dearly. They were such good friends whose company we enjoyed for nearly 50 years our lives were richer for knowing them. They are together again.
