Remembering My Dad, Brian ShawIt’s hard to put into words what my dad, Brian, meant to me, but if you want to understand him, you just had to see him at the dinner table. Some of my happiest memories are our family meals out. Dad was a man of habit and simple pleasures—he never had to look at the menu. It was always the steak pie, and it was always exactly two pints of John Smith’s. Never a drop more, never a drop less. What I’ll miss most is the way he’d beam at everyone afterward. He couldn’t help himself; he’d tell the staff, the family, and pretty much anyone within earshot just how much he’d enjoyed it. Seeing him that happy, with a clear plate and a proper pint, is how I’ll always see him in my mind.He taught me that you don’t need much to have a good life—just good food, a bit of routine, and the people you love around you.Cheers, Dad. This next one is for you.
