This page is dedicated to the memory of Roy Timms whose will take place on Friday 1st May 2026.

Roy, who died on 21 March 2026 aged 85, lived a life defined by adventure, hard work and an enduring commitment to his family and profession. Born in Northampton during the Second World War, he rose from modest beginnings to build an extraordinary international career in the oil and gas industry for over four decades, most notably with BP.

Beginning as an apprentice electrician, Roy rose to a successful international career in senior project management. His work took him all over the world from Dominica, Abu Dhabi and Norway to Azerbaijan, Algeria, Southeast Asia and the Caspian Sea.

He played key roles in significant projects, including the pioneering Project Andrew, widely recognised for transforming approaches to offshore project delivery. Roy’s secret ingredient was his ability to combine technical excellence, creativity and a willingness to push boundaries and take calculated - but safe - risks. He was also a born leader, with innate ability to bring teams together and inspire, motivate and always to have fun, undoubtedly shaped by his role as a Queen’s Scout in his formative years.

Outside his professional life, Roy was a man of boundless curiosity and practical skill. A gifted problem-solver, he could turn his hand to almost anything, from building cars and restoring boats to designing intricate projects at home. He had a lifelong passion for sailing and his boat, the Ravenspur of Yorkshire, embracing challenges at sea with the same enthusiasm he brought to his work.

Above all, Roy was a devoted family man - husband to Daisy, father to Harriet, Giles and Sophie, grandfather to Gregor, Gabriel, Dora, Evie, Bertie, Reggie and Mary and brother to Mim and the late John and Peter - whose incredible generosity, adventurous spirit and warmth shaped the lives of those around him. His life was marked by a willingness to take chances, to think differently and to live to the full.

He will be remembered with great affection and pride by his family, friends and colleagues, and his legacy endures in the many lives he touched and the projects he helped bring into being.
