We are sad to report the passing of Vera Clarke at home, Target Firs, Temple Ewell on 12th March 2026 aged 98.

Vera and her family lived in that house since it was built in 1953. She married Dennis who worked for the Post Office (GPO as it was then) in 1947 and four daughters followed - Marilyn, Janice, Dianna and Karen - all of whom attended local schools.

Vera spent the bulk of her child-rearing years being a homemaker but found time to run the Brownies and Girl Guides groups in the village for many years. Some may also remember the toffee apples she made by the bushel load annually for the village fête.

She started work as an auxiliary nurse at Buckland Hospital around 1970 shortly before she was widowed, a job she continued until her very long retirement.

She was a keen lifelong knitter and crocheter and examples of her work are owned all over the district. After retiring she enjoyed many years of activities including dancing, social clubs, gardening, only being forced to withdraw from them in recent years due to ill health.

Funeral will take place on 23rd April at 2pm, Barham Crematorium, all welcome. Afterwards at The Cider Works, Sandwich Road, Waldershare, Dover CT15 5AU. Family flowers only, donations if desired in her memory to Branching Out TE c/o Marilyn Holness 141 London Road, Temple Ewell CT16 3DA or via WJ Farrier & Son Ltd, London Road, Dover CT17 0TG.

Anyone unable to attend the service in person can view the Obitus webcast using the link on this page.
