John and I were forever friends. He was always there for me, took me where I needed to go and often used to run errands for me. We'd go out socially together and always have a wonderful time. I will miss him more than words can say. Alzheimer's is a cruel illness and I am glad he is at peace.

In loving memory of John Ollington who passed away 28.03.26
John Ollington was a deeply kind, thoughtful and generous man whose love of music shaped much of his life. From an early age, he could be found at gigs and festivals, a passion he carried with him right up until the end of his life. He saw many legends such as Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, David Bowie, The Who and Bob Dylan, attended the iconic Isle of Wight Festival, and held a lifelong love for artists such as The Beatles and the Grateful Dead – especially enjoying their cover bands - The Cosmic Charlies and The Grateful Dudes.
He travelled across the UK for music, from his local Leigh Folk Festival to Red Rooster Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and Glastonbury, always happiest surrounded by live music. In later years, he also enjoyed gigs at local venues such as the Hoy at Anchor Club and nearby blues clubs.
Aside from music, John loved watching snooker, especially following greats like Jimmy White, and he never lost his enjoyment of simple pleasures – like settling down with a pizza or smoking the sweet Mary Jane. He also loved reading and watching films, particularly fantasy favourites like The Lord of the Rings.
John met Mary in 1974, and they began their life together in 1979, sharing 47 years of laughter and memories.
He cherished time with his children and grandchildren, and was happiest sharing a pint of ale and a laugh with family and friends.
John is greatly missed, especially by Mary, his three children – Marc, Sarah and Jon – and his four grandchildren.
