On 13th March 2026, David ‘Dave’ Lesley took flight peacefully from this world at the age of 82, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 36 years, his children Claire, Richard and Michael, his step-children, Ann, Mary and David, and nine grandchildren.

While working for British Rail, he studied accountancy at night college, and his career progressed with Dave retiring as the Chief Finance Officer at British Rail Road Transport when the railways were privatised.

Known for his energy and organisational skills, Dave loved running, travel and photography. In later years he enjoyed rambling, puzzles and watching all sports - especially cricket!

Dave lived with faith and served the community, volunteering at various times as a chief scout master, referee, athletics official, Manager of the Veterans GB Athletics Club and Chairman of the Parents and Teachers Association at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School. Dave was also the treasurer for Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Southend Athletics Club and the U3A.

Whenever you asked Dave if he was alright, his answer was always "no, I’m half-left." He will be missed by his family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Leigh-on-Sea on 22nd April at 11.00 a.m., followed by refreshments at Our Lady of Lourdes parish centre.

Family flowers only please, but donations can be made to The British Heart Foundation or Fairhavens Hospice in his memory.

His family are grateful for the care and compassion shown at Southend Hospital, especially by the staff at the Elizabeth Lowry Ward and Father Brett. We also thank the community palliative care nurses, doctors and his many friends.
