Aunty Maureen
Always a leader and many followed, so it’s no wonder you held the title ‘Matriarch’

Thank you for the wonderful memories from all the holidays, they’re permanently stored in our hearts and bring us warmth and smiles.

Condolences to the family in the UK, you are all in our prayers.

Aunty Maureen will be missed.
May her memory be eternal 🙏

Love from the Martins Downunder

Where to start about my big sister, loving, caring, loyal put family & friends first, stood up to anyone if she disagreed with what they were saying or doing & never tolerated bullying. The family have heard this more than once before a young tall chap named Larry Marshal same age as my big sis was riding his bike down the street & I had someone's else's handheld pellet gun & tried to shoot his front light with it. Needless to say, I missed and shot him in the leg instead and he jumped off his bike caught me and gave me a good whack. I ran home crying & Maureen asked what's wrong & I told her Larry had hit me & I omitted telling her I shoot him. So off she bounded down the street after Lary & gave him a proper good hiding as no one messes with her family. Maureen took over as Matriarch of the family after Mum could no longer do it and opened up her doors to all to share in family & friend's gatherings. I left home in 1971 & my only regret was my family in SA missing out on family life in England. We certainly did our best to make up for time missed on my trips back home often lead by Maureen. My brother Stewart & I often concur that we had the greatest family & friends growing up in Charkes Street as kids wanted for nothing. Big Sis with the life you led & the example you set I have no doubt you will be in heaven & until we meet again God Bless Rob

Aunty Maureen was such a special part of our family — the heart of so many of our memories. As the oldest, she carried so much wisdom, strength, and love, and brought us all together in her own way.

Her home was always open, full of warmth, laughter, and family gatherings we’ll never forget. That’s where so many of our best memories were made, and that’s a reflection of who she was — kind, welcoming, and full of love.

It gives me a bit of comfort to think of her reunited with Uncle Denny… though I think we all know she’ll still be keeping him in line — so whether he’s getting any peace and quiet is another story!

We’ll always remember her stories, her generosity, and the way she looked out for all of us. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will stay with our family forever.

Thinking of you all and sending love during this difficult time.
