Honesty as her name depicts was an honest and good hearted friend who had stayed connected to me all these years, very reserved and quiet outwardly but has a very joyful inner spirit that makes you feel at home with her. Death laying its icy hand on our friend Honesty stilled the laughter that once filled our days and quieted the voice that knew our stories by heart. Death dimmed a light we thought time could never touch, when we were in Nursing College at Korle-Bu, half a century ago.
Honesty was a friend who made ordinary moments matter and stood close in silence when words failed and celebrated loudly when Joy found us. We see her in the small kindnesses we passed along in the courage to keep showing up for one another. She is gone from sight, but not from the shape of who we are.
Honesty,we love you but God loves you more. Rest In Perfect Peace.🙏

"Grandmaaaa", as I affectionately call her was an embodiment of love, compassion and generosity, always there for those in need, and a reassuring presence.
Her heart was pure, and she touched many lives in ways we may not even fully comprehend, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered until her very last moments with us on earth.

Her mission was one that made a great difference in the lives of many people.
She wasn't a celebrity or a well-known political figure; her death wasn't mentioned in the newspapers or on the radio. However, her departure touched many.

I had always promised her a visit and she would usually ask me with laughter, "Pastor Charles are you still on your way coming to visit me? Then I will respond "forgive me Grandma, but I will surprise you one of these days".

Unfortunately she rather surprised me with her departure.
Though we have lost a rare gem, I am comforted by the truth of God's word that she is in a better place.

Revelation 14:13 KJV
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Rest well Grandma in the bosom of Lord, till we meet again.

TRIBUTE TO THE LATE HONESTY LILA ATI BY MATES OF COMPREHENSIVE THREE GROUP NURSES OF KORLE BU AND KOMFO ANOKYE ALLUMINI.

A HELPLESS SOUL THAT LOOKS TO THEE
IS SURE AT LAST THY FACE TO SEE
AND ALL THY GOODNESS TO PARTAKE
THE SINNER WHO FOR THEE DOTH GRIEVE
AND LONGS AND LABOURS TO BELIEVE
THOU NEVER, NEVER WILT FORSAKE
MHB 80 VERSE 4

It is with great sorrow that we pay this tribute in memory of our dear sister Honesty Lila Ati, our friend, and colleague. No words can express the loss we feel. Unexpected as this loss is, let us take comfort in knowing that in all things we will delight in the Lord who knows best, even in our times of sorrow.

On the 4th of August 1972 a group of young ladies and gentlemen were admitted to the Korle Bu and Komfo Anokye Nurses Training Colleges to start a three-year training and fulfil their dream of becoming State Registered Nurses (SRN). Our dear sister, Honesty was one of them.
Honesty Lila Aati successfully completed the State Registered Nurses’ (SRN) training within the specified three-year period in August 1975.

At that time, the training program was being modified to reflect the socio-cultural effects on health thus, it was named comprehensive, and she happened to be among the 3rd group hence C3. There were hundred and fifty (150) females and thirty-two (32) males.

She completed her nursing training with certifications as a State Registered Midwife, and a State Registered Nurse.

Honesty Lila Ati had a strict and well-focused disposition, which made her win the confidence and trust of her superiors, colleagues, and subordinates. Honesty later relocated to England where she lived and worked until her demise.

Our profession and our destiny took us to different parts of the country and different parts of the world after our graduation in August 1975. Most of us have not had a glimpse of one another or spoken for quite some time, but all this changed in recent times, thanks to the launch of a WhatsApp year group platform. Through this platform, we have been able to reconnect and make friendships anew, such was our friendship with Honesty. Naturally Honesty is not a social person, she sparingly contributed to the group’s discussions but followed up on discussions by calling some individual group members to ask questions, seek clarifications, and made her contributions.

We never heard about any illness of our colleague until the shocking message from her daughter Angela informing us about her demise on February 08, 2026. Our grief was hard to express, and our disappointment could be felt all around. The platform was full of sorrowful messages from friends far and near. Sadly, we have missed another good friend and colleague whose exit will be strongly felt among colleagues. The Comprehensive Group 3 will miss her refined experience and contributions.

It is with tears and heartache that we bid farewell to our dear friend and colleague. Fare thee well! May the good Lord grant Honesty peaceful rest in His bosom until we meet again. Amen 🙏

Honesty, there're stars of different brightness and intensity but you were the one whose reflection permeates various galaxies of life. You were gentle, sofly spoken and never inconvenienced anyone whenever you had problems. We will miss you and your sweet and melodious songs that you shared whenever we reminisced on the love and God-fearing lessons our parents taught us. May the Angels welcome you into the kingdom where there's no pain but love, peace and joy.
