In loving memory of Geoff Saward, of Meltham, who passed away peacefully on 25th February 2026. The dearly loved husband of Steph, much loved Dad of Joseph and Matthew. Brother of Valerie.
Born in Doncaster and growing up in the surrounding villages, Geoff was educated at Merton College, Oxford, graduating with an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. Post-graduation he moved to Huddersfield in 1984, where he trained as a Chartered Accountant, before spending over 30 years in the financial sector, holding fellowships of Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, and London Institute of Banking and Finance. Most recently he worked as a Covenant Analyst at TPT Retirement Solutions in Leeds.

I was fortunate to get to know Geoff when we worked together in Halifax. He was a man of real integrity, wryly funny, wise, and remarkably calm. He always made time for everyone around him, and he never failed to know exactly which three teams were worse than his beloved Doncaster Rovers at the start of each season.

My sympathies to his family.

Such sad news. I worked with Geoff at Halifax and he was one of the kindest, sweetest people I’ve ever known. I remember fondly sharing some coffee breaks with him and I was always grateful for his wise counsel.

In a troubled world that needs more people like Geoff, one of the good guys has been taken too soon.

Sincere condolences to his family.

Such sad news. Geoff was a great friend at university and beyond. He was kind, thoughtful, funny and would always put others first. He was my best man and I was his, and my and Christine's thoughts go out to Steph, Joseph and Matthew. He is a great loss.

This is very sad news. I worked with Geoff for many years at HBOS and Lloyds, in the Mortgage Finance team, along with many others who've replied to your post on Linked In. As others have said he was a calm and reassuring presence during a period when things were difficult for the bank and for all those who worked there. I personally appreciated his guidance and listening ability over that time.
It's a real shock. Geoff was always very fit and I remember once ran from John-O-Groats to Land's End (on a running machine over a calendar year) not something I've ever remotely managed.
I think I'm right in saying that we were together (in one of our very easy going one to ones) when we heard that Lloyds had taken over HBOS. Looking back, it was important for us as it meant that we could continue to work in the organisation, just under a new name. A moment I’ll never forget.
Many condolences all of you. Geoff spoke about you all a lot and his priority was always making sure he was doing his best for Matthew and Joseph.
Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to attend the funeral, but I will be thinking of him on the 23rd.
Best wishes
Martin
