Dear Lynn, Nigel, Kevin, Ian, Graham and Carol,

I was so very sorry to hear about your dear mum’s passing, especially on what would have been such a special day — her 90th birthday.

She lived a long life surrounded by all of you, her wonderful family, and that is something truly special. I will always remember her great, infectious laugh — once she started laughing, you simply had to laugh along with her. It was impossible not to.

As a child, I absolutely loved visiting my Auntie Norma and Uncle Dennis, and my crazy cousins in Nottingham, whom I adored completely. I was always so excited when you came to visit us in Grimsby (the place where you liked to remind us that we were two years behind in fashion!). Those are memories I will treasure forever — wonderful memories that can never fade.

I wanted to share the photograph of your mum as a very young woman, with all of life stretching out before her. There is something deeply moving about seeing her at that moment in time — not yet knowing the love she would find with Dennis, the six children she would raise, the laughter she would fill rooms with, and the generations that would follow because of her.

When we look at a photograph like this, we are reminded that a whole lifetime lives between one heartbeat and the next. The young woman in that picture carried within her every future memory — every joy, every challenge, every embrace, every burst of laughter that we were lucky enough to witness.

Time moves forward, but somehow it also gathers. The young woman in that photograph never truly disappears. She lives on in each of you — in your expressions, in your humour, in your strength, and in the love you pass on.

A life is not measured only in years, but in the people it shapes and the memories it leaves behind. And in that sense, her life continues.

Please know that my heart goes out to each one of you at this very sad time. I hope you can find comfort in one another, in your families, and in the many happy memories you share of your wonderful mum — and of Uncle Dennis too.

With all my love and deepest sympathy,
John
