Marianne Vera Atkinson (31 Oct 1935 - 9 Jan 2026)

In loving memory of Marianne Vera Atkinson who sadly passed away on 9th January 2026 aged 90 years.
Born in Berlin, 31 October 1935, mum grew up in the Weissensee district of Berlin.
1953-1961 - various vocational courses and work.
1961 - married Howard Atkinson in Berlin.
1962 - gave birth to son, Peter in Walsrode, W. Germany.
1966 - moved to London (living in Penge, SE20) where she worked part-time as German teacher at an Adult Education Institute.
1971 - 1975 - Teacher Training at Rachel McMillan College, London.
1975 - 1887 - Class teacher at primary schools and special schools for children with learning and behavioural problems.
1987 - Moved to Sheffield, gave private tuition in German (advanced level), and English with work especially structured for dyslexia and other educational needs. Worked part-time as a nanny for a local family for several years.
1996 - Took up residence (initially part-time) in Nottingham to prepare exhibitions of her late husband's work.
1996 - 1998 - Exhibitions at various venues in London, Nottingham, Oxford and Sheffield.
1999 - 2020 - Very much involved with voluntaries: Chase Action Group, EcoWorks, Nottingham Soc. for the Blind. Ran a voluntary German language class at St. Anns Neighbourhood Centre, later at the Lincolnshire Poacher.
2021 - 2024 - continued to live independently in Chestnut Grove.
2024 - moved in February into The Oaks Residential Care Home, Campbell St.
2026 - Passed away on 9 Jan.
