In loving memory of Cyril Reginald Spooner who sadly passed away on 14th December 2025
Cyril was born and bred in Plumstead, he married Barbara in 1965, and together they had 2 children, Melanie and Jason. Later in life he became a proud Grandpa to 5 grandchildren - Samantha, Lucinda, Tiffany, Ellysha & Jonathan, and then 4 great grandchildren - Caitlin, Alfie, Layla & Harper, all of whom he loved dearly.
Cyril worked hard throughout his life, holding many different jobs including coal man, removals, roofer, building a few houses, road engineer/maintenance, HGV driver including gritting the streets of Greenwich.
Cyril loved his holidays starting with camping trips along the Kent coast. In the early 70s he took his first flight to Spain - and from then on, there was no stopping him. His travels took him to Barbados, Acapulco, Florida, Miami, Egypt, Malta, Cyprus, Kenya to name but a few. His most memorable trip was a surprise 25th wedding anniversary present from Barbara - a flight on Concorde!
In 1997, Cyril was diagnosed with a rare benign brain tumour, which he overcame with the care and support from Kings College Hospital. In 2001, he then suffered another trauma in his life and had his bladder removed and had to live with a stoma bag which changed his life forever.
After retiring early in 1997 due to his health, Cyril spent his time playing bowls, fishing, collecting his grandkids from school and enjoying the sunshine in the garden or at his caravan.
In 2023 Cyril celebrated his 80th birthday. Later that year, he began experiencing falls and his mobility gradually declined. He still managed a few days out and visits to his local club for a couple of pints - one of his favourite past times throughout his life!
As his condition worsened, he became bed bound and, surrounded by love, peacefully passed away, no longer in pain. Barbara, Melanie & Ellysha were by his side.
