In loving memory of Joan Young who sadly passed away on 20th December 2025
Born in Walthamstow nearly a hundred years ago, widow of John Young, she was a lady who could make friends anywhere, especially those like her who loved art and crafts. With a kind nature and a lovely sense of humour she was a legend in Leigh. She will be missed by all who knew her.

I met Joan in the early 70s when she came to my part time ceramics course at Worthing College of art. We became friends immediately. She would come to my cottage at Edburton where we constructed kilns and created art. Even when she moved away from Sussex we would meet occasionally in London and would exchange ideas and news via letters. I will remember her as a warm, creative and humorous friend whom I shall miss. Sadly, I am unable to attend the funeral.

A lovely friend and neighbour Joan was always elegant and had a sharp sense of humour and keen eye for arts and crafts. She will be missed.
