In loving memory of Gordon Keir who sadly passed away after a short illness on 28th December 2025.

We thank everyone for the messages of condolences and have taken great comfort to hear of all the lives that Gordon touched. He was truly a one of a kind.

Gordon had many passions during his life - he was a lifelong motor sports fan, from watching Formula 1 even in the early hours of the morning, to being a proud member of the Ducati Owners Club  - he loved joining them on the overseas trips to Europe on his Ducati Multistrada 620 which he acquired at the ripe old age of 70. Previously he took a keen interest in sailing & was a member of Benfleet Yacht Club, enjoying weekend trips away on his yacht with his sea fairing mates, Rod and Stuart which more often than not resulted in an interesting tale upon returning home. He was always on the go and had a list of jobs to keep him occupied - he had recently bought a bicycle as walking Rebus the dog had become too slow for him and he exclaimed that it was no longer a walk but a sniffathon.

Gordon had an endlessly creative mind,  he loved photography and art and he especially enjoyed making things in his garage to make life simpler, be it an iron frame to build his own steel pergola or making his own sail covers with his industrial sewing machine. He was an avid reader and devoured books, most typically spy novels, at a fantastic pace. He took real pride in finding all the Le Carre spy novels in charity shops and would spend hours hunting for the next one in his collection.

The funeral service will take place on Monday 26th January 2026 at 10:30am (GMT) at Southend Crematorium, 654 Sutton Road Southend on Sea SS2 5PX. Refreshments will be served afterward (from 12pm) at The Peterboat in Old Leigh, 27 High Street, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex SS9 2EN as a time to come together and share stories and reminisce. If you have any photos you would like to share on this page or on the day please feel free to bring them as we would love to see them.

The family request that you RSVP for the funeral and/or the wake to Lucy by 16th January 2026 to allow adequate preparation.

The service will be screened live for all of his family and friends overseas and in the UK, please contact Lucy beforehand if you would like to obtain the screening details. If you cannot log on live there will be a recorded version available for 28 days.

Due to Gordon's continued support of the RNLI charity, the family have created a link for donations to RNLI should you wish to contribute. Flowers will be from immediate family only.

Sending deepest sympathy to Jenny, Lucy and all of Gordon’s family and friends. Also to say thank you for the family trips to Leigh, to the steep steps down to the cockle sheds, the fish and chip meals, walking along the shore and listening to that magnificent laugh. A very wise man who came into Jennys life and swooped her off her feet, gave us Lucy, who stole my crown as the baby of the family, and will be missed xxx
Rest easy Gordon x
