My memories of Jim

As Jim and I were only a couple of years apart I have memories of our early years.
* Early in the war he and I going to see our first crashed German bomber Junkers 88 in a field near our house in Cottenham near Cambridge.
* In 1943 sitting in our coal cellar in Warwick ave in London My sister Chris or Janet reading William stories hoping that the flying bomb engine did not cut out over us. We made it to 1945.
*Janet had her first job at Australia house in Aldwych. so, on Christmas eve Richard Jim and I were invited to sing carols to the many Australian airman awaiting a ship home. At the end of our concert, we were invited to partake of all the food goodies we had not seen since the start of the war, this was after we had picked up all the coins that had been thrown for us.
*With the war over we all went to Essendine School, its still there.
*Summer afternoons were spent on Hampstead Heath catching frogs and racing them in the horse’s drinking trough.
*In our teens we took up cycling racing at the Paddington track, now gone
*Jim got two pedal trikes with ice boxes, so we pedaled around a large area of west London selling lolly ices Jims first commercial venture.
* In the following years Jim got into the motor business, together we recovered old prewar cars fixed them up and sold them.
* Jim started the MG business and then the auto repair shop in Elnathan mews with Anton, this included a stock car that we watched him race at various tracks.
*In 1969 I moved into the flat at Melrose court in Crouch End that Stanley had passed on to him.
* I moved to Canada and in the following years we made trips, the boys and jenny still have memories of visits to his yards.
* Jim came to see us several times
He was doing his cruise boat trips, so I joined him on one to Alaska
*A couple of years later he flew to Calgary Alberta I drove out from Powell River BC and we spent a few days touring the Rockies back to Vancouver.
*In 2016 he came with Fred and Margaret from Australia via the UK. We did the Vancouver sights then took the ferries up to Powell River we did a tour of Powell Lake on a friends Houseboat followed by a tour of Vancouver Island
On my visit to UK in June last year I fortunately did see Christine and Jim.
He had a good life considering his health problems in the Seventies? My condolences from all of us in Canada.

Uncle John

I am Bunty's younger brother and remember Jim in his small garage in Elnathan Mews behind my primary school in Shirland Road, Maida Vale. We went to support him in his not very successful stock car racing days. As a young lad I saw this as really glamorous. In his later car breaking years he helped me with spares and removing my car failures. I have seen Jim in more recent times during John's visits from Canada but to me he is always that stock car racer.
