In loving memory of Peter Kennedy Maher who sadly passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 29th November 2025. Peter will always be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Peter’s funeral will be held at Medway Crematorium at 1.30pm on Monday 12th January. He suggested that colour be worn in celebration of his life, so please feel free to dress comfortably as you wish. After the service a Wake for Peter will be held at the Bridgewood Manor Hotel & Spa, Walderslade Woods, Chatham, Kent ME5 9AX.

We would like to request family flowers only please. If you would like to make a charitable donation in memory of Peter we have chosen 2 charities. Peter felt that Demelza Hospice Care for Children was a very worthy charity. As Peter’s family and friends we have also chosen to support the Sunlight Development Trust Community Garden based in Gillingham. Peter attended the Community Garden each week for a number of years. His attendance was something Peter looked forward to and felt very proud of. The Gardening Group always need basic items like compost and seeds, they are currently fundraising for an outside pizza oven as the group often cook outside, we feel it would be lovely to have something in Peter’s name in the garden. If you would like to make a donation the links are available below.

If you would like to attend Peter’s funeral, we should be grateful if you would kindly indicate to help us with catering numbers for Peter’s Wake.

Access to the justgiving page for Demelza is available above.

My dear brother Peter’s death was so unexpected and has been an enormous shock for us all.

Although we led very different lives our lives were entwined from the moment the Midwife called “It’s a boy” to the very end by an unbreakable bond.

Peter faced many challenges throughout his life, which he met with uncomplaining acceptance and courage, something I always found humbling. He showed compassion to those less fortunate or going through hard times.

A loyal brother, always quick to compliment the dinners I cooked, how I looked, any support given or the trips we went on.

Peter had a good memory for past events and historical facts. Often reminding me of things we’d done as children that I had long forgotten.

Peter you were loved more than you probably realised and you will be missed more than you would ever have imagined. Thank you for loving my family, particularly my grandchildren. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to be with you when you passed away. Sleep peacefully Pete. All my love, forever Maur xx

A very nice man, he always wanted to shake my hand, and thank me for letting him come to our Indoor Short Mat Bowls Club. He was always with us every Thursday afternoon, 2nd and 4th week in the month, held at St Augustine’s Church Gillingham. Over the years Peter became more confident in talking to us. Telling us about his trips to see shows, groups and holidays. Thanks Peter, we are all missing you my friend. Bob.

From all his friends at St Augustine’s Church Gillingham, Indoor Bowls Club. Peter came every 2 weeks on a Thursday afternoon for a couple of hours. Over the years he became more and more chatty, developing his confidence to talk more. A very nice man, loved his music, groups and shows. Talked about his trips, holidays, people he lived with, and his family.
Missing you already Peter as we always had fun with you.
