In loving memory of Angela Tryphena Summers, who sadly passed away on 5th December 2025.

Angela was a remarkable and courageous woman who will be greatly missed by those who dearly loved her: daughters Nina and Laura; sisters Irone, Evadne and Marvet; brothers Norman and Carlton; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Angela was born in Portland, Jamaica, in 1955 and came to the UK in 1960 along with her two sisters Irone and Evadne. Here they joined their parents Marion and Zephaniah in Sherwood, Nottingham. Angela attended Haydn Road Infant/Junior School and Haywood Secondary School for Girls.

Angela started work at the age of 15 in the textile, and later the lace industry. Angela later became a domestic worker, until she retired and was able to share several years with her beloved husband Paul, who passed away in February 2024. Angela had her first daughter, Nina, in 1974. She met Paul in 1980 at a gig where he was performing, and it was love at first sight. They had their daughter Laura in 1983. Paul and Angela were then married in 1988. Angela shared a love of music and cooking with her soulmate Paul. She loved to dance, whether at home or out at a gig supporting Paul’s band.

Angela was a woman of few words but always had an opinion. This is probably why she adored Judge Judy. She loved Poirot and a good murder mystery and somehow always managed to guess the killer. Angela was a deep thinker and wise beyond her years. She had a heart as big as her smile. Being amongst her family meant everything. She knew how she wanted to live and be in the world: to be content and happy with no regrets. These were her aspirations — and she achieved them.

I think I will always remember Angie as a strong woman with a beautiful big smile. Many fond memories , but it’s her strength that stands out and she has passed that on to both Nina and Laura. RIEP Angie. Much love xx

Angie was so supportive during, and after, my late wife’s illness in 2024. This was despite, or perhaps because, she herself had so recently lost her beloved Paul (Beano). Throughout 2025 I always looked forward to visiting Angie for a cuppa, and had such admiration for her philosophical outlook on life. I will miss her a lot and will treasure the memory of all 4 of us going to Ronnie Scott’s in 2019.

I met Angie through Beano and Laura when she used to come along to watch us all playing in The Last Pedestrians. She was always smiling and enthusiastic and very warm hearted. I always felt very comfortable and easy chatting with Angie and she was always up for a laugh. She’ll live on in my memory as a smiling, happy person full of love who always gave me a big hug goodbye. I know she’ll be greatly missed by Laura and Nina and the rest of her family and my heart goes out to them at her loss but what a blessing to have known her and to have had her in our lives.

Auntie Angela was grounded, genuine, and quietly strong in a way that never wavered. She knew who she was, and that knowing gave her a steadiness that anchored everyone around her. I’m gonna miss seeing her smile at family parties, and I will cherish the memories that I have with her. My heart goes out to Nina and Laura. I will miss you, Auntie. Rest in peace x

Angela was a caring, practical, and down to earth woman who I have had the pleasure of knowing for over 40 years. The depth of her strength and character was all the more powerful within her petite stature and she was very influential to those that truly knew her
Angela will be sadly missed by her beautiful, strong girls that carry her legacy and strength, also her siblings and her entire family. Rest in peace 'gal'

I was privileged to be introduced to Angela through her daughters Nina and Laura. I think what really stood out to me about her was that she was unapologetically herself. In the short time I knew her I sensed her vivacious love for not taking life to seriously, for being in the moment and to live life at its fullest.
She provided me with a grounding as an elder black woman, in her I could see that we don’t need to fulfil any stereotypes we can authentically be who we are. This is a legacy that she leaves in her image - Nina and Laura.

I am proud of them both- as she is. I want them both to know that they are her living legacy. I am always here for them in whatever ways serves them best. Rest well ‘Cocker’. Asha. ❤️
