In loving memory of Michael, dear husband of Deborah and devoted father of Ella and Megan.
Michael’s wonderful humour and love of life brought him many close and sustained friendships. He held many passions and often shared these with his loved ones. Michael was an avid sports fan and kept himself fit with regular long runs. Carlisle United Football Club deserves a special mention, with Michael having been a stalwart supporter since childhood. Away from sports, Michael could turn his hand to discussions on a great many topics. He always kept abreast of current affairs, including the political news, and he loved debating with friends and family... often with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Michael also loved exploring and learning about new cultures. He counted himself very fortunate to have been able to tour the Southern Hemisphere, including extensive travels in South America.
Michael’s loving friends and family were an immense support to him as he battled his illness with incredible courage and dignity. He faced his long hospitalisation with tremendous positivity and resilience, assisted by the caring and expert staff at the Royal Brompton.
We all love Michael very deeply and he will be so dearly missed. A humanist service to give thanks for Michael's life will take place at West Road Chapel, Sutton Road in Southend on Monday 5th January 2026 at 12 noon, followed by a burial (12.45pm) at the cemetery across the road. Refreshments will be served afterwards (from 1.45pm) at the Holiday Inn by Southend Airport (SS2 6XG).
All of you are welcome to attend any or all parts of these farewells.
Family flowers only, please. Any donations to be made via the link above to Fair Havens Hospice in Southend, who provided Michael with such loving and compassionate care.
