In loving memory of Carmel Byfield, who passed away on 1st December 2025, aged 87 years.

Carmel was a woman full of life, and whose presence brought warmth, humour, and strength into the lives of everyone who knew her. She grew up with strong family values and devotion to her faith, and carried these with her throughout her life. She was deeply devoted to her family, especially her six children and her grandchildren, all of whom were the centre of her world.

She had a sharp (sometimes sassy) wit, a wonderfully compassionate spirit, and a personality that could light up any room. Until the very end, she loved to chat, laugh, and share stories - moments her family will cherish forever. Even in her later years, when the mixed dementia slowly changed the ways in which she expressed herself, her spirit, resilience, and the deep love/empathy at her core remained.

She found joy in the simple things: listening to Jim Reeves, sharing stories and meals, being a 'provider' and safe harbour for anyone who came to her home, and spending time with those she loved. Her family will remember her not only for who she was, but for the comfort, familiarity, and love that being in her presence always brought.

Although dementia gradually chipped away at Carmel, she was as sharp as a tack until the very end. The disease never erased the impact she made, the memories she created, or the love she gave so generously throughout her life. Her nearest and dearest supported her with immense devotion, and over the last few years, every act of care was a reflection of the bond she had built with them over a lifetime.

She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, tenderness, and sheer strength. She will be missed beyond words and remembered with love, always and forever.

  • Grandma, I’ll forever remember the days when me and my brothers were young we’d come round sit on our Nintendos for hours on end smelling your cooking itching for it to be done😂 we broke apart for 14 years and 6 months ago I finally got to meet you again, no matter the Dementia or the Alzheimer’s you was still Carmel and you’ll always be, you was still my Grandma and you’ll always be, you was such an amazing beautiful soul and that’ll never stop, your attitude stunk but I loved it😂 seeing you in the hospital broke me and I knew it was nearly time but while I was sat with you holding your hand everything went away. All my pain all my troubles all disappeared because I was with you. I can’t see you Grandma but I know your here. You had an amazing life with the family and you deserve the world and more. You’ll never be forgotten by any of us I promise. Until we meet again QueenG I love you❤️
