In loving memory of Pamela Mavis Goundry who sadly passed away on 24th November 2025.
Born in Ropsley, near Grantham, Lincolnshire on the 3rd October 1934. Mum had a perfect village upbringing although lived through the 2nd World War from when she was 5 years old. Mum also had to leave school and nurse her own sick Mum who died when Mum was only 18 years old. When Mum was small she had many fun-filled days spent with her best friend Mary they were a cheeky pair scrumping apples and being passed bottles of pop through the pub window which they clearly both had amazing memories of. Retaining a great sense of adventure Mum explored local dances and had many friends in the local villages, even now she still has contact from those very early days in Grantham. Mum met Dad and they soon became inseparable, they were a hugely popular couple in Grantham and the local villages as Dad knew many people through his amazing football career. They settled locally in Somerby and had Karen and 18 mths later Christopher. Dads work career took the family off to Kings Lynn, Norfolk were Mum made many friends through schools and being a very outgoing personality. Mum started her own career and started instore demonstrating of products as the 1970's started more branded products were on sale. Mum thrived in this role and gained a fantastic reputation soon becoming a team leader and ran her own groups of demonstrators in many stores. Trips into London were some of her proudest work moments when not many people got to do this then. Mum loved taking her children to Hunstanton beach after school in the Summer evenings and many sand filled picnics were had. Around 1973 we were on the move again this time to Luton where Dad had been promoted to Assistant Manager of the COOP insurance office. Mum carried on with her product demonstration roles and always had new flavours of crisps and new sweets before they even got to the shops, great for us children. Mum loved to travel and we were fortunate to be able to go to Spain for a few years, this would have been very difficult then as Mum and Dad had to take extra jobs to pay for the flights, but it really was worth it. Mum also explored Italy, Spain, France with Dad later in life. She also ventured to Switzerland, Canada, New York, South France and many Crusies around the Mediterranean. Mum was aways fit and active and loved Yoga, Tai Chi, Reiki and even was a trained masseuse after she finished working. Mum was incredible when Dad was diagnosed with Dementia she helped and encouraged him to live a normal life in very difficult circumstances, personally I can recall a very special New Year’s Eve when Mum and Dad were embracing the new year with a glass of fizz in bed happy and enjoying the moment. Dad passed away in 2013, Mum cared for Dad and accepted his passing, she carried on with life and spent many happy days gardening in her beautiful garden enjoying the plants and birds that she loved to see flying free in the sky. 2020 was tough for everyone, a move to Silsoe was to try and find Mums zest for life, as she had started to struggle with day to day life, a move to Ampthill to a care home seemed to be the best solution giving Mum a Social environment that would hopefully give her some much needed interaction in her later years. She had some good times although for the family very sad times seeing our Mum in an environment and life place that we knew she would struggle with, so did we, we just hoped it would be the best place for her with the needs she now had. Mum loved her Grandchildren 4 boys who have given 8 great-grandchildren and loved to watch videos of what the little ones were upto when she couldn't see them. Fortunately as a family we managed to assemble the family Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren together in the same room for Mums 90th Birthday a very special moment for everyone. Mum had been diagnosed with Dementia and she was struggling with daily life, good days and not so good days, but I really hope we were there for our Mum, will always miss you, your Spirit and love of life will live on forever in our families, thank you x
