In loving memory of Eutrice 'Kim' Ali who sadly passed away on 7th November 2025
My wonderful mum was the key person in all our lives especially for myself, my sister Mandy, son in law Fred, grandchildren Jermaine and Lauren. She gave us never ending love, support and encouragement, always smiling. From making a fantastic 5 tier wedding cake for myself and Freds wedding to looking after her grandchildren for 15 years during her retirement Mum gave us herself totally. She faced many personal and health challenges in life which she overcame with a quiet determination and firm resolve, never complaining , keeping positive , relying on her faith in God and prayer to sustain and lift her spirits.
Mum was an only child and the only daughter of her mother Rita Fongenie, and father Edwin Kwan Kang born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in 1936. With the support of her mother and family, took the brave decision to leave her beloved country, family and community for a new life in England in 1961 to train as a nurse in the newly formed National Health Service , known to us as the NHS. Mum enjoyed her work as a nurse and always completed her role with compassion , dedication and empathy to her patients. In 1963, she married a fellow Trinidadian , a neighbour known previously to her that was my Dad Polo Ali and had 2 daughters, myself and Mandy.
With no family support, very few friends or backup Mum provided all the care and nuture we needed growing up in the East End of London. Despite her isolation from her own mum, family, culture and friends, mum ensured her daughters had everything they needed. She was a brilliant cook and shared her love of Trinidadian food with us often. The final 20 years of her working life was spent being a Head cook of several primary schools in Hackney East London, the quality of her food gaining a reputation and demand of how tasty it was within the school and local authority community.
Mums health issues were numerous , from developing type 2 Diabetes at a young age (late 30s early 40s) and its associated diseases of High blood pressure and cholesterol to Breast Cancer and finally Kidney disease, which for her meant dialysis 3 times per week to age 89
Mum managed to control her Diabetes with her diet which was unheard of at the time in the 1980s, 1990s,2000s to overcoming Breast cancer in her mid 60s, to living with Kidney disease well into her 80s.
She fought for life and wanted to live, and always said that "Age is Honour". She thanked God for her life and prayed often. We too thank God for the best mum in the world called "Kim"
We would appreciate that those that read this tribute kindly make a donation to Kidney Care UK and/or Diabetes UK to find a cure for these awful diseases that takes away so much from those that suffer from it. We humbly state that all donations are voluntary with no obligation.
