❤️ In loving memory of Terence Henry Lyddall 'TERRY' who sadly passed away on 27th October 2025 ❤️
Terry was an amazing, legendary man, anybody who met him would never forget him.
He was the kind of person who could make a difference in a room, full of warmth, humour, and an unstoppable spirit. He could talk for England, and his stories, laughter and larger-than-life personality left a mark on everyone who met him. He was honest in his views and opinions and fiercely loyal to those he loved and cherished, not only his family but also his close friends.
Terry was first diagnosed with parathyroid cancer in 2015. After surgery that required part of his thyroid gland being removed, he was left with a prominent scar on his neck — a mark he wore with pride, often joking about it and sharing photos with anyone who asked. It became a symbol of his strength and humour through a time that was difficult. Having made a full recovery, Terry asked for and kept his radiotherapy mask as a reminder of what he’d overcome!
In 2020, he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. Despite the heartbreak this brought, Terry faced it with the same courage and resilience that defined him. We all knew that this would never go away but that it had to be managed and Terry would have to work hard to live the best quality life possible with this diagnosis. He was offered a place on the IRONMAN register — this involved trial medication, regular hospital visits and detailed questionnaires — he embraced it with determination, wanting to help others as well as himself.
The sad news that his body was no longer responding to the treatment he was receiving and that the cancer had spread led to a course of chemotherapy which he completed this year in August. He said his summer holiday was at Queen Marys cancer centre.
Terry was a true warrior in every sense of the word: brave and endlessly inspiring. He completed his treatment only to be told at the end of it that the cancer had spread...
He accepted that there was nothing left for him and that the Prostate team at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital and given him all the 'weapons' they had to fight the disease.
The last ten years did not define Terry's life they were only a small part of his biography, but they are a part he would want to share........ ❤️
He always said that he had 'a fantastic life' and he truly loved his journey and all those that had been a part of it. He was grateful and respectful of every doctor, nurse and carer of the NHS team who helped and supported him through his illness.
His life came to a peaceful and calm end in Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, an absolute haven which can only be described as being run by a team of ' ANGELS'.
Terry's last week of life in this hospice was one filled with love and laughter and an opportunity for him to plan his funeral and tell those close to him how much he loved them for one last time. He felt privileged to be there and had total faith in all those around him.
397,000 MEN DIE OF PROSTATE CANCER EVERY YEAR around the world. New treatments and therapies are on the rise but it is still not understood which practices deliver the best outcomes for men with advanced prostate cancer.
This Charity gave Terry extra time in this world which he was grateful for...........
He requested that a donation be made to the Prostate Charity instead of flowers at his funeral. ❤️
Next year in honour of the Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice he asked his family to join together to raise money for this charity. They enabled him and his family to have an HAPPY ending to his life as well as giving his family a positive image of his last days.
We look forward to seeing you all at the funeral which will celebrate his life and give everyone an opportunity to reflect on what he meant to them and what a difference he made to you because you knew him.
Love Always ❤️
