Helen Caroline Peters
8th September 1961 – 15th October 2025

Helen Caroline Peters — Mum, Nanny Helen, or simply Helli to those closest — passed away peacefully on 15th October 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Trinity Road in Sheerness on 8th September 1961, Helen spent a short part of her childhood in Singapore before returning to the Isle of Sheppey, where she made her home for the rest of her life. She was a devoted mother to Scott and Ryan, and a proud Nanny to Jessica, Cameron, and Elliott, who were her greatest joy.

In 2017, Helen was extremely fortunate to receive a double lung transplant — a gift of life that greatly improved her quality of life and blessed her family with precious extra time together. She faced the challenges of her health with courage, gratitude, and her ever-present smile.

Helen had a deep love of gardening, always nurturing life and beauty wherever she could. She was endlessly creative and would happily try her hand at any craft, ultimately mastering knitting and crocheting — leaving behind treasured pieces made with love.

Selfless to her core, Helen always thought of others before herself. She had a gentle heart, a giving spirit, and a way of making everyone feel cared for and welcomed. Her family will forever remember her warmth, strength, and the love she gave so freely.

“No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away.”
— Terry Pratchett

Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness and creativity will live on in every life she touched.

I remember the first day I met Helen. I had 3 young kids and a baby, was struggling to get on the bus with a double buggy and she helped me with it. Our friendship grew from there. We walked to and from school with our kids together, went on long walks and had a lot of laughs! Our favourite games we played together was scrabble and yahtzy. Ryan and David used to play together alot. Helen loved her garden we both did. She taught me to knit and crochet, I still struggle!
The day I moved out, she said to me "Don't be a stranger" I kept her words, every year I came down to see her. She was my best and true friend, always kind and helpful to everyone.
I've known her 40 years+ she will always be in my heart and memories. I really miss her and sue is always going to be my best friend

Rest well Helen x

We did not know yo that long and it was not how we would have liked to have met you but we are so glad we did. What a fighter you were. To see you laying in your bed attached to that incredible machine, with a beautiful smile on your face gave us hope for our future. Thank you and your selfless sister Eileen for welcoming us into your home and lives. We miss you dearly. Rest In Peace, lovely lady ❤️❤️💔

My Aunt Helen, ‘Helli’. You were of help to me in more ways than I could possibly repay, which I am thankful now, I had the opportunity to tell you. Rest in peace in the knowledge you were, and will forever be, loved by us all. We will miss many things about you, too many to mention here, but very grateful for the fun and laughs we had, occasional (fully deserved!) reprimands and of course your unwavering resilience. A truly remarkable and brave woman, that I am so very glad, to have had in my life. My story is incomplete without your kindness and I will continue to think of you often in the years to come. Helli, a true one of a kind and now forever missed xxx

Aunt Nelly was a funny and very generous person. The best memory I have of her was going over her house and devouring as many sausage rolls as she'd cook. It is because of Helen why my favourite films are Star Wars; I remember borrowing each of them on VHS to watch over and over. I spent a summer with her and Ryan once and to this day it was one of my favourite times. With Love Rob, Debbie, Aimee and Matilda. Thinking of you all!

She Is Gone
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
