Only a few years apart, we grew up together, visited one another’s homes, and spent time at local cricket matches in Haworth and Oxenhope. I could go out there and play the game. Bill couldn’t. We grew up, and I travelled around the world. Freely. Bill’s wheelchair-bound travel was much more restrictive, but he did get to places. I recall a trip he made to Finland, thanks to the massive support of his family and the accompaniment of his sister, Lisa. While his physical disability visibly characterized his life, it never stopped him from commenting on the world around him. He had a brilliant mind, weaving social justice with progressive rock, football and politics. Our conversations were splendidly punctuated with his references to historical dates of kings and queens, battles and books; and the names, and exacting details of music recordings by Peter Gabriel, one of his favourites, and others. Those were splendid times, my cousin and friend. Thank you, Bill.
