In loving memory of Anthony Hugh Thorpe (Tony) who sadly passed away on 18th October 2025. Anthony was the Loving Husband of Florence, Father to Timothy and Stephen, and Grandfather to Em.
Tony worked for Nottingham City Council as a service manger in property and land registry until he retired in the year 2000. Before working for the council Tony served his National Service with the RAF in Germany working with radios.
Tony had many interests. Tony throughout his life was active with our local Church, St Cyprian's in Nottingham. Tony sang in the choir, served at the altar and did a spell as Church Warden.
Tony was an active member of the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society. Having camped next to the railway in 1969, the family has returned to Tywyn every year since. He joined the society and started to help with winter working parties and later moved on to become a Guard, Blockman and Controller. From this all the family volunteered, Stephen eventually making the Talyllyn Railway his career and Em, his grand daughter now guards as well.
He was a member of the Vespa and Veteran Vespa Clubs, building and restoring several vespas from the 50's, 60's and 70's. It's through the Vespa Club That he met Florence. He competed in skill ride competitions, even winning a few. He also was an active member of the Federation of British Scooter Clubs. Later on he built vespas for Tim & Stephen and taught them how to ride.
Tony was also a involved with Scouts where he was for many years the group scout leader at 1st Gedling and later he was in volved with the Scout Fellowship.
