In loving memory of Sarah Helen Hayward, a beloved mother to Ciara, sister to Simon and friend to many, who sadly passed away on the 9th October 2025, aged 58 years.

Sarah grew up in Wigmore with her brother and parents Gwyneth and Godfrey. Over the years she dedicated herself to work that truly made a difference. She was a much loved teacher at Fairview School, where her kindness and patience touched the lives of countless children. Later, she brought that same compassion and commitment to her role as an administrator at MCH, Medway Hospital.

Sarah’s dream was to be a mother, and she devoted her life to that role with endless love. She found joy in every part of family life, sharing a special bond with her brother and her cousin Susie, who was more like a sister to her and Ciara’s father Martin. She was also a loving aunt and godmother, treasuring her bond with her nieces and nephews.

Sarah’s cremation service is to be held at Medway Crematorium, Blue Bell Hill, on Monday 24th November at 1pm with a celebration of her life afterwards at Gillingham Golf Club.

Family floral tributes may be sent by 11.00 am on Monday 24th November, c/o John Weir Funeral Directors, 127 Watling Street, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 2YY.

Donations in memory of Sarah may be made to Meningitis Now and Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis online via this website. These two charities were very close to Sarah’s heart, as their work offers hope, support and life-changing help to others living with the same illnesses she so bravely faced.

You have been the biggest part of my life since I can remember. Always my big sister . Loving me , looking after me, entertaining me, helping me, advising me and just always being there for me. You made my life complete. We shared so many memories, most of them flash past me every day since you left. In fact memories I had forgotten come flashing back and I smile as I remember more.

As cousins we couldn’t have been closer. We were sisters in every way possible. You took me to my first concert to see Madonna in 1987! You were my bridesmaid. in 1992. You were the most amazing Godmother to my children. You were my confidant, my rock, my supporter, my best friend.

I promised I’d always be there for you. I don’t know what I will do without you.

I can’t comprehend what has happened and I don’t want to believe it. I can’t yet.

We were going to grow old together, put the world to rights and play games.

You were the most selfless, kind, thoughtful, caring, funny, intelligent person I have ever known. You were my world!

Not a day will go by when I don’t think of a moment we stared. There were so many. Happy, funny, peculiar memories that only we would understand and laugh at.

You were a true fighter and survivor to the very end. So brave and strong. You had so many things thrown at you in your life and you still battled on when most people would have given up.

You had the most precious gift born to you in 2000. Ciara is an absolute credit to you. A mother and baby bond stronger than anything.

One of the funniest things I remember was when you told Nanny May that you were going to be an American Hooker! Nor to be out done I quickly added that I was going to be an English Protestant !!! 😂 (I didn’t quite get it right)
I miss you 😔 and will always miss you.

I cannot believe that you have gone, always smiling in the face of adversity, and boy did you have adversity. You leave behind so many who love you dearly, much too young to have been taken. xxxxx
