In loving memory of Melvin William Robson who sadly passed away on 4th October 2025.

Mel was a wonderful Husband, Father, Brother and Grandfather. He will be sincerely missed by many people. His love of aeroplanes shone through from his careers in aviation. He was proud to have served in the Royal Air Force and latterly, to work for BAE Systems prior to his retirement. When retired, he spent time in general engineering and later worked on carpentry and many other charitable engineering projects.

He was a devoted family man and leaves behind his wife Christine, his sister Thelma, his son Andrew, and daughter Gemma and four Grandchildren, Liara, Jackson, Amelia and Owen.

He will be in our hearts forever. x

The Funeral will be held at Haltemprice Crematorium, Main Street, Willerby, Hull, HU10 6NS at 2.30pm on the 27 October followed by a Celebration of Life at the nearby Mercure Hotel, Grange Park Lane, Willerby, Hull HU10 6EB.

I worked with Mel(aney) at BAe in the early 90s. It was my first graduate job and I loved hearing his RAF stories! And he was always first with the insider knowledge of any incidents! He used to call my Linford and I called him Melaney! I will always remember is calm but jolly nature!

He was the first person to call be Mrs. B when I got married which was very sweet! I assume the nickname thing came from the RAF!

Such sad news. I first worked with Mel in the late 90's. He had a real passion for aircraft, always enthusiastic, generous with his time and a great sense of humour. After retirement our usual meeting place was Tesco's, blocking the aisle for half an hour with 'just one more' of his humorous stories. It always brightened my day.

Mel Robson was our technical contract partner at BAE Systems when Metronor Group of Norway developed our boresight system – a solution that now is the basis for our thriving military business. We all enjoyed working with Mel. He was a true gentleman - always friendly, correct and extremely knowledgeable - and he always had an amusing anecdote at the ready. We will forever be thankful for the time we spent with Mel and for the very constructive contributions he made during our cooperation. Our sincere condolences to his friends and family.

Mel was the most generous and friendly person you will meet. When I joined Bae, he took me under his wing and taught me everything. A genuine gentleman he was always there to offer support and advice, mostly with a funny story as well. I will never forget you mate. Condolences to the family.

Mel was a clever, funny, naturally gifted people person and leader. I struck gold with Mel for 10 years after he took me under his wing in 2001 working at Brough in Ground Equipment. Condensing that amazing period in a few words here is impossible but standouts are the stories, weekend camping trips, caption competitions, hunt for hottest curry house on business trips, eyebrow raising microlight incidents, metal detecting japes, Monty Python reenactments, work trips to South Africa but also bringing any setting to life. Many condolences to the family. Rest in peace Mel.

I have known Melvin simce childhood when he used to live with his parents at Kirby Vilas, Ouseburn - next door to my Sister. We used to play and go fishing together. During school holidays, he once came to stay for a week or so with me in East Yorkshire. We lost touch when he joined the RAF and next saw him at my sister's funeral. Since then I have seen him seveal times at British Aerospace departmental get togethers. Melvin was a lovely person - and a great angler! He was always friendly, smiling, chatty and had a great sense of humor. My condolences to all his family and friends.

I worked with Mel at BAE. He was so funny and kind, I always remember him very fondly.
He once bought me a box of Yorkshire Gold as I ran out and on it he wrote "posh T for E.V." it was funny, so I cut it out and stuck it on my tin box. 15 years down the line is still there and every time I make a cuppa I see it and smile.
He made me a map and circled to show where to land and where to not land after I landed out by mistake at RAF Church Fenton with my glider.
He was such a great guy.
Rest in peace Mel, you will be so missed.

Working for Mel for 10 years was an absolute honor, privilege and a pleasure. Mel took me under his wing from day 1 at BAe & what he didn’t know about Aircraft wasn’t worth writing. As an aircraft enthusiast coming from the Semi-conductor industry, I would listen in awe and envy of his RAF career and antics. We had some great laughs. Thanks Mel. Plenty of Height & plenty of speed mate. Rest in peace and see you on the other side. Thoughts and prayers for Crissie, Andrew, Gemma & family…

Fellow member of class 111C, I remember Mel's wonderful sense of humour, he will be sadly missed. He used to call me "CJ" a play on words from my initials "GJ" from the tv programme Reggie Perrin.

It’s so sad to hear the news of Mel’s passing. It was a privilege to have worked and known Mel over several years at the Brough site. Mel was a very nice and genuine guy who was well respected by people he came into contact with. In retirement I had the pleasure of bumping into Mel on a couple of occasions at the Goodmanham Arms reflecting on our past times at BAe Brough. Condolences to Mel’s family R.I.P. Mel, one of the best.

Mel was easy to love in the way guys love each other. When we met we would hug. When we parted we would shake hands until the next time. Sadly, now, there will be no more next time and I shall miss him. Jings, how I’ll miss him.
