In loving memory of Raymond Edgar Woodason (Ray) who sadly passed away on 7th October 2025.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Edgar Woodason, known fondly as Ray, who died peacefully on 7th October 2025 at Mayflower Court Care Home in Southampton, aged 82.
Born on 7th September 1943 in Southampton, Ray spent most of his life, with Cilla, on the Waterside, where he built a life rooted in family, community, and creativity. He dedicated the majority of his working years to the Esso refinery in Fawley, where he served as a skilled and respected engineer, making great friends and memories over the decades.
Ray was a true gentleman — an all-round lovely guy — known for his warmth, generosity of time, and quiet, practical wisdom. He had a lifelong love of sailing, a passion for music which he delighted in sharing and teaching, and an incredible knack for DIY and creative projects, always ready to lend a hand or build something amazing.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife Cilla, his children Vanessa and Daniel, and his cherished grandchildren: Esther, Hope, Marnie, Vaughan, Jack, and Amelie.
A funeral service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at Wessex Vale Crematorium on Friday 7th November 2025 at 2pm. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend and say goodbye.
If you would like to join us in remembering Ray, please contact Vanessa at vwoodason@googlemail.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be deeply appreciated — an organisation whose work is so important to us all at this sad time.
To note, Ray wasn't a religious man, but a true lover of music. We have chosen 'In My Life' by The Beatles as the song to sing at the ceremony to remember him by. Lyrics will be provided, but you may also wish to revisit the song beforehand if you'd care to join in.
Vanessa and Daniel would like to thank everyone at Mayflower Court for their love, care and support of Ray through his final year.
Ray’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
