Michael Robert Bethell (10 Feb 1945 - 9 Sep 2025)

In loving memory of Michael Robert Bethell who sadly passed away on 9th September 2025.

Michael was born in Birmingham in 1945 and made his own way early in life, working first for local councils before moving into charity administration with Dr Barnardo’s. It was during these years that he met Pauline, and together they raised three daughters – Jenny, Wendy, and Lucy. Family life was busy and full, with Sundays spent at the swimming pool, holidays packed with adventure, and later, plenty of help from his ‘workforce’ on his many building and renovation projects.

Work was never just a job for Michael – it was part of who he was. From property development to running the Golden Lion pub, he brought energy, practicality, and no small amount of humour. He was known for his generosity, whether helping neighbours and pub regulars, or handing out wrapped gifts with his own mischievous twist. He had a love of beer, food, beer, cricket, cars, beer and travel, and lived life with a determination to do things his own way.

The family kindly ask that, in place of floral tributes, donations be made in Michael’s memory to Fair Havens Hospice, in thanks for the wonderful care and support they provided.
