In loving memory of Richard John Rees who sadly passed away on 5th September 2025.

Richard was born at All Hallows Hospital, Ditchingham, Norfolk. He would often talk of countryside adventures, full of farm animals, landscapes and trips to the seaside. Enjoying science and zoology, alongside his passion for poetry and art, he studied at Glasgow to become a Veterinarian and went on to have his own small animal practice. His love of poetry and painting did not diminish and he enjoyed these pastimes, alongside cultivating a large collection of classical music. His love of music led him to piano lessons in later life but, in his own words, his fingers would never move together, or fast enough, to become a concert pianist himself. He will be sadly missed by all his family.

You are very welcome to join us to celebrate his life at 2:30pm on Thursday, 9th of October, at Eltham Crematorium, followed by afternoon tea at 42 Glenlyon Road, SE9 1AJ.

Flowers should be delivered to 62 Westmount Road, SE9 1JE to arrive before 1pm. If you would prefer, a donation can be made to the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice, which Richard supported. You will find a link for donations on this page.

If you would like to be able to join us but distance or travel prevents you from doing so, an online link is available for you to hear the service:

Sadly, Richard,'the time has come'.It has been a privilaged to know you, first as a most compassionate vet and later as an even more amiable friend. For both I thank you and will sorely miss your easy-going dog-walking company.

I first met Richard when I was 18 when I started working at his veterinary practice where he trained me to work along side him. I have such wonderful memories . He was a gentle giant, funny and good at pranking me ( I have a good few stories of that ) . I was still there when he retired, I stayed at the practice for 25 enjoyable years. I know for sure Richard will be missed by so many people.RIP Richard x

I was very fond of my cousin Richard or Dick --the name many of us knew him by. Always friendly, kind and affable I always enjoyed meeting up with him at family gatherings and when he visited Glasgow with his dear wife Margaret. So glad to have known him.
