In Loving Memory of Sandra Barbara Ehlers (1947–2025)

Sandra, aged 77, sadly passed away, unexpectedly, at home on 23rd August 2025, due to complications with her heart.

Born in Shoeburyness to Barbara and Douglas Batchelor, Sandra was the beloved sister of Trevor and Kevan. As an army child, she spent her early years in many different countries, including Singapore, Malaya, Cyprus and Libya, attending eleven different schools and developing a love of horse riding.

At 18 years old, Sandra moved to Gothenburg, Sweden with her former spouse, Lennart Ehlers, where her children, Elisabet and Robert were born.

Later, returning to the UK in 1971, she trained as a teacher, and after some time, welcomed her third child, Hanna.

In the autumn of her life, Sandra embraced her creative spirit and became a dedicated artist. Through her exhibitions she raised awareness of environmental, community and women’s issues, causes she cared about deeply. Her passion for recycling, protecting the planet, and not wanting to waste anything, inspired many around her.

Known for her warmth, compassion, and lively spirit, Sandra could often be found walking neighbours’ dogs, enjoying the seafront, or delighting friends and family with her legendary dance moves.

She will be profoundly missed by her children Hanna, Robbie and Lisa; her grandchild Lilly; her daughter-in-law Janet; sons-in-law Karl and Fred; her brother Kevan; and by her wider family, neighbours and many dear friends.

Her funeral will aptly be held on “World Heart Day,” Monday 29th September, 11am at the West chapel, Southend crematorium. We hope you can join us in person or via video link.

Details for Sandras “Celebration of Life Event” held after the service will be at 12.45pm, and will be provided in the order of service on the day, (5 minute drive.)

Funeral dress code: COLOURFUL please. Family will not be dressed in black. Sandra was a colourful person so we’d like her send off to reflect this. Don’t be afraid to be bright with us.

Mum lived with Cushings Syndrome so donations in Sandra’s memory are warmly welcomed for the Pituitary Foundation.

When thinking of Sandra, who can forget those glorious occasions when she hosted the best parties in Town.
My fondest personal memory is when as Head teacher of Our Lady Of Lourdes Primary School I arranged with Sandra to come into our school to teach art.
In her own inimitable style Sandra made a huge contribution to the children’s awareness of Art and all things Creative, And yes, of course she made it fun!

Dear Sandra over the past two weeks I’ve been reflecting on so many happy memories and fun and laughter since I first met you in Langans. To Lisa, Robbie, Hannah and family I’m so sorry for your sudden loss. The tributes and photos say it all. I’m so sorry that I can’t be there on Monday. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers for the celebration of Sandra’s life. May she be watching over you all from Paradise. 🙏💕
