In loving memory of Shirley Duffield who sadly passed away on 1st September 2025
She was born to Hilda and Sidney Morris in Lockwood in 1932. She attended Longley High School and left for work at 16. Working at David Browns Gears was an important part of her life, but she did eventually move to work at Cliffe's and during this period she met and married Brian Duffield and moved to her home in Birchencliffe. She then stayed at home to bring up her daughters Gillian and Susan from the late 50's to the mid 60's, when she returned to David Browns to work in the Tool Division. When Shirley was 50 her husband Brian died, leaving her to live alone for the rest of her life. She did, however, change career and became a social worker in Huddersfield, enormously enjoying the role. She was sorry that Brian did not live to see her grandson, George. She did fill her life with activity. She kept dogs (Pepi and Sammy) and travelled to Spain, Italy and the middle east, often with friends and family.
