Margaret Mercer (9 Feb 1947 - 19 Aug 2025)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Margaret Mercer who sadly passed away on 19th August 2025.
Margaret was born in Hull and grew up on a farm near the docks. Aged 14 the family moved to Berkshire and on leaving school she took up an apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework in London. Whilst there she attended a Billy Graham rally and became a Christian.
She then worked in Sweden as an au pair and later returned to needlecraft when working at Hampton Court. Whilst there she got married to Richard and straight away moved to Zambia for 3 years where Daniel was born. Returning to the UK, Phil and James were born when the family lived in Surrey.
Then followed 40 years of living in Christian community in the East Midlands in which her role as a mother included being a homemaker for many others beyond her natural family. She excelled in this as she did in other areas of her life.
Whatever she did she did it well whether handicraft, cooking and other practical activities or in being a friend to many.
Her last 5 years were spent in Muston Gardens where she enjoyed running a smaller house, making new friendships and catching the bus to Wigston.
