It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful dad and gramps, Alan Peter Mear.

Gramps, you weren't just a dad and a grandfather, you were a wonderful husband, friend and companion. Your humour was unmatched, and your love, support and kindness will be something we will treasure. We joked that you were the ‘bionic man' with everything your body had been through, but despite it all, you continued to fight until the very end.

Although the last three years had been difficult for you, you continued to live your life staying true to your optimistic and kind nature. You were a wonderful and loving great grandfather to Archie, who believes that the angels have taken you to the moon, where you'll be drinking coffee, and listening to Classic FM with your head in a book.

We will always speak of you, think of you, and feel your absence. You were loved beyond measure, and we are so grateful for the time we shared with you. It brings us comfort to know that you felt that love with you, always.

All our love x

I have happy childhood memories when our two families would go on rambles together around Gedling and lambley. He was always kind to my sister Helen and I. I know live in Scotland and haven't been in touch for about 40 years, but I still remember him. Rest in peace

Sorry to hear that Alan passed away. We were great friends at school, even though we lost touch I still remember him fondly.

Known you all my life. Had wonderful bonfire and firework parties at your house as a child. You and Madeline were always there for me during troubled times. Can't believe your gone, you were supposed to live for ever. On the day you left us, Oliver told me you'd gone. He went out into the garden and came back at 4.30 with a tomato he'd picked from the greenhouse. He came to me and dropped at my feet then cried for a cuddle. You know that Oliver is in his forever home. You'll be missed more than you'll ever know. xxxxxx

It's hard to believe that just over a week ago we were sitting in the gardens of Arnold Park, watching the world go round. I loved being with you, whether that was just existing with you, or out on our little adventures together. You were such good fun, and always up for trying something new. If you'd have told me twenty years ago that my 87 year old Gramps would be sat with me and my friends in a Vietnamese restaurant late into the night, I'd have believed you, because you were that guy! I'll hold the memories we have together so close to my heart for the rest of my life. You were so special to me. I love you so much Grampsy xx

How lucky were you to love, and be loved by such a wonderful man. I agree with Archie, and he will be watching over you, from the moon with such pride. Grandads never truly leave us. All my love x
