I was really shocked and upset to hear the news. I have fond memories of teaching Daniel chemistry at Callywith. Sadly I cannot attend the ceremony on Thursday but will raise a toast to him on the day.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Dan at the Lakes Trust, one of the truly great people to bless this earth. He had the wit of a middle-aged man and a sense of humour for every occasion. With a head on his shoulders well beyond his years, Dan was wise, grounded, and always carried a calm confidence that made him stand out.

I was lucky enough to bump into Dan after I left the trust while he was renting a car, and we had the chance to catch up, a moment I’ll always be grateful for like no time had passed.

I’m deeply saddened to hear of his passing and send my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. He truly was one of life’s good guys.

I was shocked and saddened when I heard this news earlier today. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll always remember Dan as being a very polite and well mannered young man. He would always take great joy in jumbling up my greek alphabet display at the back of my classroom and see how long it would take me to notice!

Dan, the first time I ever met you was at the lake. You were helming a dinghy and at that point, I had never sailed before. Alex told me to climb in with you. I was terrified as I wasn’t wearing a wetsuit and it was autumn, the lake was cold. I asked you (you must have been 11 or 12!) if you know what you were doing and you assured me, with full confidence you could sail the boat and had been sailing for a while. Naturally, with such confidence I naively believed you! About 3 mins later the boat went into an uncontrolled gybe and promptly we capsized! You were incredibly calm as you talked me through how to dry capsize whilst you, the noble captain went in the drink with his boat 🤣 I don’t think I ever got in a dinghy that you were helming again after that!

I also remember fondly when you did your year 10 work experience with us. I was running out of things to give you to do. So I printed out lots of posters and asked you if you knew how to use a laminator. “Yes” you told me with confidence (clearly I never learn) so I set you off with the task of laminating 30 or so posters. Around 10 mins in I decided to check in to find what must have been 8 or 9 posters that were laminated together in a long line… you had fed one after the other without leaving a gap and they had fused together! It was so funny, you looked dumbfounded when I showed you how simple the job was!

These little memories are you all over Dan. Confident, funny, up for anything and never wanting to disappoint. Your flair for adventure and can do attitude was what made you YOU. I cannot believe you have been taken so soon when you had so much to give. Your passing will have broken your mum and dads hearts, many MANY weekends did we chat in the office whilst you were on the lake. You were their absolute world Dan, you were their greatest pride and they raised a fantastic boy to a gentle man.

Sleep peacefully sweetheart, you will never be forgotten

Love, Sarah xxx

A true gent who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He treated his girlfriend (my daughter) with the upmost respect which is all we could ever ask for. He will be sorely missed by us all; no one will ever fill the void that he has left behind. Rest easy Dan, fly high and be proud of everything you've achieved and everyone you've supported. Love you x
