In loving memory of Michael Coe who sadly passed away on 28th June 2025.
Michael was born in Ipswich and grew up there during WW2. He attended Everton School but wasn't very keen on lessons ! He left to work on the family farm and then worked as an agricultural machinery engineer.
In 1970 he moved to Weybread and turned what was then the Forge into a garage, now Cathedral Garage. He and two of his children, Helen and Stephen, lived in the cottage he renovated.
Michael had been a drummer from a very young age and played in a number of bands. It was through music that he met Isabel (Issy) in 1978 when he joined her band, Suffolk Punch, and they eventually married in 1979. The band toured the UK and spent 2 years in Germany before returning home in 1984, just before daughter Melanie arrived.
Mike set up his own business as an electronics engineer and with his passion for music also set up a recording studio. He lived and breathed music all his life.

Sadly, in 2022 he suffered a cardiac failure and from then on had a number of health issues requiring several hospital admissions. On Wednesday 25th June he was admitted for the final time and passed away on the Saturday evening with Isabel and Melanie by his side.

Dad, you were unique, one of a kind (not always in a good way). We shared some sad and challenging times over the years, but together we got through. I miss you, but you are forever with me.

Music is a great comfort. As in the song “To live without my music, Would be impossible to do”. I have many great memories of enjoying music together, too many to list all but here are some that stand out.

❤️ Going to see tribute bands for Queen and The Jersey Boys at the Theatre Royal. We shared a love of different music, but you loved it all! You were even partial to rock like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Beach Boys the list is never-ending.
You supported my love of Kate Bush, whom you thought was weird at first.
❤️ Playing “Name That Tune” and “Popmaster” together.
❤️ Telling me I must listen to Bohemian Rhapsody the first time you heard it, knowing it was going to be a massive hit.
❤️ I have fond memories of unpacking your drums at gigs and packing them up again at the end of the night.

There were also many other happy memories, that I will cherish for the rest of my time. Particularly memorable are:

❤️ Watching black-and-white movies on Sunday afternoons - back then they were probably only available in black and white.
❤️ Fishing in the river using maggots and going home to cook the fish - it wasn’t always that good to eat. It was a little boring, so I played with coloured maggots, which is gross 🤢.
❤️ Messing around with you when we lived at the garage - there was no red tape back then!!

And so many more happy times

Miss you always, keep on drumming,
Love Nena xx

Dear Brother. I miss our video chats and calls. Got me through Covid lockdowns. We tried to put the world to rights, but of course didn't succeed! Happy memories of farming life at Thorndon and then Henley. Your frustration at the times the combine broke down during harvest time. Breaking your arm from trying to crank the tractor, which used to kickback. Now of course that would not happen with all technology. Anyway have chatted on as we used to. Rest in Peace Mike, will always miss you being there!! Margie. Xxx
