Philip Henry Johnson (21 Aug 1938 - 15 Jun 2025)

In loving memory of Philip Henry Johnson who sadly passed away on 15th June 2025, at the Willowcroft Care Home, Spondon, aged 86 years.
Phil was a lifelong Christian. He met and married Pat at Queens Hall in Derby and they spent six years in the Cameroons as missionaries with the Basel Mission, fulfilling their Christian calling. On return to Derby, Phil returned to his former employer, Rolls Royce as an engineering instructor until the company’s bankruptcy caused him to seek alternative employment. He found work with Staffordshire County Council for 30 years, initially at Rocester, using his engineering background to help young lads who needed support at what was then called an approved school. He spent the last 10 years of his working life as an inspector of care homes, a complete change from his engineering background but yet again exploiting his love of working with people for the common good. In his retirement, he continued the good work, becoming the administrator for the Derby Derwent Mission Methodist Circuit, and for Workplace Chaplaincy in Derbyshire.
