It is with very heavy hearts that my brother and I have to let you all know that our amazing and much loved Mum, Gayle Tebbutt, died on Tuesday 17th June.

Some of you know that Mum was diagnosed with a very rare cancer last year and unfortunately it spread rapidly.

Despite this Mum was able to stay at home in her final weeks, where she wanted to be, with her beloved dog Jimmy by her side.

We know Mum had many, many friends in the Rylands. Meeting lots of you (and your dogs!) over the last few weeks / months has given us both huge amounts of comfort that she and Jimmy were very loved by her friends and part of a wonderful community.

Mum’s funeral will be on
Tuesday 15th July.

The funeral cars will leave from Mum’s house at 3.30pm.

The service will be 4pm at Bramcote Crematorium and all are welcome to attend.

We would then love her friends to come and celebrate her life with a wake at the Boat and Horses, Beeston Rylands, where dogs are of course especially welcome!

If you cannot make the funeral or prefer to just attend the celebration of her life at the Boat and Horses please know this is absolutely ok too. (Boat and Horses from about 5pm)

Please come dressed in whatever makes you happy; formal, casual or dog walking clothes, Mum just wanted everyone to feel comfortable.

There will be family flowers and please feel free to bring along a single flower for Gayle to place with her as you leave the chapel at the end of the service.

Mum adored nature and animals, so if anyone would like to donate to the RSPB or Blue Cross charities she supported you can do that through this page.

Gayle and Jimmy were the first neighbours we met when we moved into the Rylands and they welcomed us to the local area with genuine kindness and warmth. It was always a delight to bump into them both on our daily walks. Our dog Poppy especially was ecstatic every time she saw them both. Before too long we'd know when it was Gayle and Jimmy walking past our window without even looking as Poppy had a specific whine reserved only for them - her favourite neighbours.

For being the true definition of neighbourly, and for being so effortlessly calm, kind, and strong no matter the situation, we've always admired Gayle. Even when she told us the devastating news about her cancer, she didn't let it get her down, simply told us it is what it is, but she wanted everyone to hear it from her. All three of us are going to really truly miss her, as are so many of us in the community and beyond. Sending condolences to all the family, she spoke about you all often with immense love and pride. She was a truly phenomenal lady.

  • My Mum adored your train trips to Matlock! When she knew she was seriously ill Matlock was one of the places she asked to go.

A part of my life passed away when you lost your dad my old mate Dave, and now Gayle. Knew your dad since I was 7 yrs old I lived next door but one to him. We grew up together and I was there when he met Gayle in fact I’m sure I was best man at their wedding but as time does you loose contact and it’s only at times like these you wished you hadn’t. Your mum and dad will always be with me,god bless them both and deepest sympathies to the family will try my hardest to be there to say goodbye lots of love Ian Towle xxx

  • Ian I remember your name and Dad telling me about your friendship. Didn’t you all go and play pool at the Star Inn in Beeston after the wedding? Lovely memories for us all. X

Gayle and Dave moved in as our neighbours way back when on Birch Avenue, this was before Craig or Carla came along, so must have been late 70s ish, I was only a nipper myself back then.

Craig was born just a year or so later and we became great mates, racing our plastic tractors up and down the garden paths, and wearing the wheels out. Carla came along a couple of years later, I can still remember Gayle and Dave proudly showing Carla to us all when she got her home.

Gayle loved her animals, whether it be dogs, cats, horses, or any animal that passed her way, we even had Gayle and Carla's horse, Shady in the back garden on Birch Avenue on more than one occasion.

Fly high Gayle, you are now reunited with Dave forever.

Bill & Lea.

  • I remember your house so well, as I think we must have always been in and out of both houses as we played in the summer. I remember you building the beautiful wardrobes for mum and dad, that still look brilliant today. A true friendship that I know Mum very much enjoyed, you were still Sylvia and Bill “our neighbours” even after we moved ❤️
