In loving memory of George Watson who sadly passed away on 16th April 2025
George was born on the 16 June 1931 at 18 Ewart Road, Forest Fields, Nottingham. He has a sister Anne, who is 13 years his junior. He attended Forest Fields Infant/Junior School & Cottesmore Secondary School & left at age 14.
Not sure what he did between ages 14 - 16 but know he worked at Players Tobacco Factory, on the lines, until he was 18. From 18-20, he was conscripted to the Army based in Aldershot, Nr London.Whilst in the Army he took up amateur boxing & was recognised for his skills!
From age 20-24, he returned to Players Tobacco Factory.
During this period he took up swimming & played water polo for Players team. From 24-60, he worked for GPO/British Telecom/BT as a Telecoms Engineer (36 years) Age 60-93, he was retired for 33 years! (The pensions people must feel they were duped) lol!
He met Dorothy at Players & they married in March 1954.
When married, they lived at 25 Radmarsh Road, Lenton, with Dorothy's parents. They had 3 children: Steve was born in July 1955, Sue was born in March 1957.
They all moved to 27 Hervey Green, Clifton Estate, a new council house, around 1958. Their 3rd child, Graham was born in September 1962.
Dorothy left the family home in 1963, taking Graham with her & leaving George to look after Steve & Sue.
Steve & Sue left home when they got married in 1977 & 1978 respectively.
George moved from Clifton to live with Sue & her family in West Bridgford in September 1997.
He had a hip replacement in October 2018 & a TIA, little stroke, was suspected. April 2019 diagnosed with Vascular Dementia.
Covid struck the UK early 2020 & the family manzged to escape infection until George sadly fell from the top to the bottom of the stairs on 28th March 2022. This advanced his dementia somewhat & he then needed 24/7 care. After 8 weeks in hospital, he was then moved into Wilford View Care Home @ Silverdale 25th May 2022.
George settled here & was happy in his environment. He developed a chest infection/pneumonia & was admitted to hospital on the 9th March 2025. Sadly, after catching a ward infection too, George struggled to overcome the infections & despite 5 different antibiotics, he passed away on the 16th April.
George was such a very special & talented man. He was a fantastic artist, using charcoals. He loved motorbikes & shared the hobby with Steve. They'd go to watch the Superbikes races at Donington & Silverstone. George could turn his hand to repairing anything really, even intricate things, despite his huge boxing fists!! He built a model railway in the eaves of Sue's attic in West Bridgford. He loved music. He would listen to anything from old time rag to modern day stuff but his love was heavy rock.. ACDC & Saxon to name only 2! He'd go to the Monsters of Rock concerts at Castle Donington & Rock City in Nottingham with his mate & they were around 65 years old!
George had 3 children, 7 grandchildren & 11 great grandchildren & he had plenty of love to share amongst all of his family. Family was his life.
What a wonderful, amazing man. He was dearly loved by his family & was respected by anyone who crossed his path. George will be so very missed by all of his family but he will live on in their hearts ❤️
