Mary Georgiou (née Miroulla Nicola) 27 November 1945 – 13 April 2025

Born in Cyprus, Mary moved to the UK as a child, bravely embracing a new language and culture. She grew up in Stoke Newington with her four brothers and two sisters, quickly adapting to her new life, excelling in school, and later working in the city.

During a holiday in Benidorm, she met Peter, the love of her life, and they married on 17 May 1969. Together, they built a loving family, welcoming their first son, Richard, in August 1971 and their second son, Stephen, in September 1973.

Mary held various jobs throughout her life, including working as a dinner lady, a pharmacist assistant, and in skip hire. After retiring, she cherished her time with family, especially her four beloved grandchildren—Molly, Sam, Francesca, and Cayden—who were her greatest treasures, bringing her immeasurable joy and laughter. She delighted in simple pleasures, whether it be knitting, her weekly aqua class and the time she spent tending to her garden. A dedicated gardener, she found peace and happiness among the flowers and plants, nurturing each one with care—just as she did with the people in her life.

After a courageous six-month battle with breast cancer, Mary sadly lost her final fight to sepsis on 13 April 2025. She is survived by her devoted husband, Peter; her sons, Richard and Stephen; her siblings, George, Chinny, Androulla, and Dora; and her cherished grandchildren.

Mary’s funeral will be held at Pitsea Crematorium on Wednesday, 14 May at 10:30 AM. Donations in her memory can be made to Cancer Research via the JustGiving link on this page, or contributions can be made in person at the service.
