In loving memory of Andrew Malcolm 'Andy' King who sadly passed away on Tuesday 8th April 2025, aged 78 years.
Loving husband to Diana, devoted father to Ben, Rebecca, Jonny and Chris, and to Duncan, his nephew. Grandfather to eleven grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Born in 1947, Andy grew up at Pier Road, Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Following his degree at Newcastle University, he dedicated his professional life to scientific research. He began his career at Rolls Royce in Derby before moving to the National Coal Board—later British Coal—where he focused on monitoring gas levels in the pits and, later, dust from open-cast mines and also dust pollution from construction of the Channel Tunnel.
Beyond his working life, Andy devoted much of his life to the St. Helen's church community in Etwall. His greatest joy came from spending time with his large extended family; particularly in taking us out for pub meals and away on holidays. He was a devoted father and a proud grandfather, always eager to spend time with his grandchildren, and sharing his love of the world around him. Inquisitive and fun-loving, he always got involved with outdoor play. He was incredibly curious and keen to learn more about the World.
Andy will be remembered for his wry smile, twinkling blue eyes, gentle humour, and the love he so freely gave. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth and curiosity, that will continue to inspire all who knew him. A much loved husband to my mum, father to five of us, and a friend to so many, dad was an inherently kind and generous family man, who brought warmth and laughter to those he spent time with.
He will be deeply missed by us all.
