In loving memory of Christine Schooling who sadly passed away on 2nd April 2025
Born in East Ham on 21st January 1945, daughter to George and Marie and older sister to Jeanie. Christine ('Chris') was a lover of art, folk and other kinds of music and books and enjoyed going to church. She was a very determined character and knew both what she wanted and what she definitely did not want!
She married Michael 'Mick' Schooling on 22nd March 1968 at St Margaret Church, Leigh on Sea and they lived in their family home in Dulverton Avenue ever since. Mick & Chris became parents to Antony and Fiona, and 'in-laws' to James and Dominique. Chris was over the moon to become grandparent (Nanny Chris) to her granddaughters Gabrielle, Freya, Noemie and Ava.
Chris worked in a number of jobs over the years but latterly was an accounts clerk until retirement. Chris was always an introvert but always enjoyed spending time with family, and in her retirement she always enjoyed helping out with childcare for Freya and Ava. It wasn't long after Mick died that Chris received her mixed dementia diagnosis. She remained living in the family home at Dulverton Avenue for a further 18 months until she took a fall and following this began her time in Joseph Lodge care home.
She enjoyed her time in Joseph Lodge, she could be sharp tongued, funny but caring as well and even where the illness had taken a lot from her she still had glimpses of her real self towards the end.
On Wednesday 26th March Chris took a fall in the home and the paramedics took her to Southend Hospital. She was initially deemed fairly ok, just weak, but on Monday 31st March following a CT scan it was established that she had a blockage in her bowel. Further assessments showed this to be a tumour that consequently perforated the bowel and her organs began to fail - ultimately after palliative care - passing away from sepsis on 2nd April 2025.
Chris is survived by Jeanie, Antony and Fiona along with their respective families. She was shy, intelligent, sometimes cutting, but always cared deeply about family and friends and was immensely proud of all their accomplishments.
