Dorothy was born in 1929 in the village of Melbourne in Derbyshire and after her childhood in Derbyshire, studied in London before moving to West Bridgford to start her career as a teacher.
Music was Dorothy's passion with connections with Nottingham, West Bridgford and Bluecoat Operatic Societies and becoming an active member at West Bridgford Baptist Church. Her family of 3 children were all encouraged to follow in her footsteps and developed musical skill of their own.
Dorothy leaves behind 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A tribute to Dorothy – when I was a student and lived with Dorothy and Tony I found that Dorothy was a very special kind of person – the only kind of person I know who could get up early and tile a kitchen floor then cook / set out breakfast for me and all the rest of the house, then go to work at a local school then come back at the afternoon to look after a 90 year-old aunt then come back at night and cook dinner for everyone and sometimes rehearse for a musical for the local operatic Society and then later on do sewing for Christmas presents one of which I received which was a nightgown and hat with a bubble on it. I realise that I could never ever match the amount of abundant energy that Dorothy showed in everything she did. Not only did Dorothy do this but she staged a fashion show in her garden with some of the garments I had made at college so that others could see them as well. Later when I got married Dorothy would often invite my wife Zoe and I to great meals and usually on their best china and a show us around their beautiful garden . A lovely woman – full of energy and very kind and someone we will always remember 💙Chris and Zoe Parton

Dorothy was my second cousin. Her father and my grandfather were brothers. I have wonderful memories of when she and her family - and once her alone - visited Canada to see my mother and I , along with other relatives around the country.
I was able to visit Dorothy and the family twice in Nottingham as well. In many ways the Christmas MJ mother and I spent with them was one of the very best Christmases we ever had.
Dorothy and I did brass rubbings one of the days we were there in the church where many of the relatives were married years earlier.
We did many other things, but those two events stand out among the best.
Dorothy was the person who finally persuaded me to join Facebook, so that we could visit, and I have never regretted it.
I love you, Dorothy. Hopefully you and my mum are enjoying lovely visits. Barbra❤️🎵

I am so sorry not to be able to attend Dorothy's funeral. She was such a wonderful, kind and lovely person. I have many fond memories of her and her music. One that stands out is when she came, with her husband Tony, to Oxford to accompany me in a recital and they had a lovely stay with my Mum. She always asked after my Mum and took an interest in everything. Love you Dorothy.

Dorothy was the sweetest lady. She was my neighbour for many years and the chats we had, as well as the piano music tinkering through the walls on a Sunday, was such a delight. Dorothy was so kind and interesting. She adored her family and was so proud of everyone’s achievements. Dorothy helped me get back into musical theatre, and I will be forever grateful for that. I am unable to make the funeral service, due to work, but my thoughts, prayers and love go to her on her final journey, and to all her lovely family for the sad days ahead. Rest in peace Dorothy xx
