In loving memory of Gillian Morewood who sadly passed away on 15th March 2025.

Gillian was born in Sheffield, went to school at St Patrick's Primary School & subsequently Owler Lane Grammar School. Nursing training was completed at King Edward VII Orthopaedic Hospital & then Gillian subsequently met her future Husband John - a junior doctor at the time - at Sheffield Royal Infirmary. So the story went - their eyes met over a dirty sluice...

After marriage, they moved to Collingham, Nottinghamshire briefly, before moving again to Gedling after the arrival of James, then finally settling in Lowdham in 1969, with Edward born in 1973, followed by Thomas in 1975.

Gillian worked nights at Mapperley Hospital Mental Health Facility for a number of years before working at The Park Hospital from its inception and for over 20 years, before retiring. Gillian lost John abruptly when he was 65 years old and was a source of immense strength to her sons throughout the sadness of bereavement. She adjusted to widowhood by throwing herself into many clubs and societies, showing everyone that she believed life was for living.

Latterly when Gillian became more infirm, she was residing at Sloe Hill Care Home in St Ippolyts, Hertfordshire. Here she rapidly became established as a much loved member of the church and social community, attending community coffee-mornings, The Phoenix Club, and laying waste to the raffles and tombolas of many a St Ippolyts Primary School fete and gala. She maintained her keen interest in gardening at Sloe Hill, helping to establish multiple flowers and vegetable plants in raised beds and regularly pruning the roses.

In her last three years, Gillian battled with slowly-progressing cancer and dementia, and finally passed away peacefully on Saturday 15th March 2025 in her own bed and with her family at her side.
