In loving memory of Dennis Ashley Taylor who sadly passed away on 29th January 2025.
Dennis began his life in Southampton, the son of Ashley and Winifred before the family, Dennis age 6 emigrated to New York City to begin a life in the new world. Tragedy struck when his mother passed away at just 26! Dennis returned to England to live with his paternal grandparents in Bradford on Avon. It was here that Dennis began his working life at Spencer Moultons rubber factory blowing up sponge balls. Not enjoying this much his step grandfather Leonard Michelle (a travel bureau director for white star line) got him a job at age 14 onboard true Berengaria as Bell Boy. From here Dennis began his career with Cunard and spent over 50 years on the commercial cruise liners between Southampton and New York. During WW2 Dennis joined the merchant Navy and took part in several engagements at the suers canal where he was wounded by enemy fire. In 1944 he met his wife Lilian in Woolston Southampton and after two years of courtship they were married January 19th 1946 at Peartree Church. The couple settled down in Woolston and started a small family. Together they spent 72 beautiful years together until 2018 when Lilian passed to spirit with end stage Parkinson’s Disease. In recent years Dennis enjoyed a cruise on the Cunard Liner Queen Elizabeth on a short trip to the Channel Islands. He celebrated his centennial surrounded by family and friends and received a congratulatory message from her majesty the Queen followed by 2 further birthday celebrations! He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
