It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Paul Tyler Coke’s death, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, who died on Tuesday, August 20 at the age of 91, in Mansfield, England.

Born in California on April 15, 1933, to Paul E. and Beatrice E. Coke, he was educated at Pomona, Heidelberg, Lincoln College, Oxford and General Theological Seminary in New York. He served the Episcopal Church all over the world, beginning as a priest at St James Parish in California, as a missionary in Liberia, professor of New Testament at the Episcopal Seminary of the Caribbean in Puerto Rico and lastly at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. During his frequent stays in England, he enjoyed taking numerous services at local churches throughout the years.

His memory will be cherished by his family and friends. He was compassionate and loving; a gentle soul who made a lasting impression on everyone he met. His love of learning, music, sports, traveling and languages brought much joy to all who knew him. Paul will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the memories and the love he shared with us all.

Paul is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel, and three children; Christopher (Vicky) and daughter Caroline, Elizabeth (David) and sons Aaron and Dylan, and Timothy and children, Max, Sofia, Franco and Christian and their mother, Sandy.

All those who knew, and loved Paul, are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life. A memorial service will be conducted at the Mansfield Crematorium, 12:00pm on the 25th of September 2024. Following, will be a reception at Hotel 281.

In lieu of flowers, donations for the Mansfield Hospice (UK) and the Reading Service for the Blind (USA) would be kindly accepted.

My most heart felt condolences go to the Coke family. Rev. Coke was someone I truly looked up to as a high school student, as I was good friends with Chris and Elizabeth. Blessings of Peace from the Middleton Family in Texas- Dr. Mike Middleton, Belton, Texas USA

Paul was my professor of New Testament at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas from 1977-1981. When I was ordained and began parish ministry, Paul's gentle and pastoral teaching style was my benchmark for my service. I have been grateful through all of these years since. Thank you, Paul. Well done, good and faithful servant.
