Colin Lockwood (19 Oct 1934 - 7 Apr 2024)

Rest in peace Colin.

I will always remember Uncle Colin as a a larger than life character. When I think of him he is on his tractor in the fields, smoking his pipe. That was his happy place. He also loved his cars. Speeding down the M25 in the new blue turbo Range Rover listening to Tina Turner flat out is another fond memory I have of him.

I will always cherish my time living in the farm in my twenties and early childhood and with my best friend Leonie, Uncle Colin and Uncle Ken. We had a lot of laughs and fun together back in those days.

Uncle Colin was always happy and had a very positive outlook on life. He always offered assistance with whatever anyone needed help with. Even getting a job for me serving cream teas at one of the neighbouring farms and Leonie a job working with Adrian down at the cobweb.

Colin will be very sadly missed by all that were lucky enough to have known him.

May he now rest in peace. Julia, Leonie and family in Australia.

Colin, one of life’s true Gentlemen, always so kind & caring, often a prankster. From an Aston Martin to driving a tractor to the pub when it snowed. Colin loved his motorsport, always interested in whatever car I was driving. RIP Colin, love to Linda and the Family.

No sooner had I moved to Beeny as a 14 year old, we spent the entire summer holiday harvesting for Colin. Such a great introduction into life on the farm. Colin was always so generous with his time and allowed my brother Spencer and I to scramble our vintage Ariel 500 motorbike around his fields as Dad banned us from using the roads…. Well I guess we were just 14!! He showed us how to strip the engine and use his garage and tools to do so! Used to love racing back from the Cobweb in my GT6 sports car being left for dust by his Aston Martin and far superior driving skills!
A lasting memory of Colin was him taking off his beeny hat, scratching his head and saying “ Yeesss well I don’t know I suppose, yyeesss”
A lose of a lovely man who loved life and where he lived! RIP Colin

Our family moved to Higher Beeny on 1 August 1970 when that same day I remember Colin and Felicity welcoming us to Bob Willets old house. I was 7 years old.
I immediately fell in love with farming and at the age of 10 starting working for Colin,£2 for bedding the sheds for his 100 count herd of Friesians.
By the time I was 13 he taught me how to milk cows with Mick Kenyon, his farmhand.
Also Colin taught me how to drive my 1st car, his Morris Minor van and my favourite tractor the Fordson Major whereby I almost took over the cliffs pulling up the grass trailer! Colin ran off his tractor in the middle of cutting grass but I was more concerned on losing the tractor and trailer over the cliff than my life!
We spent endless hours having a pint at the Cobweb, playing a game of pool at the Welly and occasionally popped up to the Napoleon to have a pint .
He had a great sense of humor , compassion for the farm, family and his Aston Martin!
Driving up with him to London for farm show when he first put a V12 engine in the car was an exciting experience!.
The terrible floods of Boscastle in 2004 he volunteered to help clean up the debris with his digger.
In 1976 when we had the snowfall of the century it was Colin that cleared a path out of Beeny lanes.
When my mother refused to accommodate me when I left another farmers employment in the middle of lambing season to help Colin with the harvest it was Colin that gave me his caravan in the orchard to sleep while I reconciled with my mother..

It was my childhood growing up with Colin that at the age of 60 has made me the man I am today.
He taught me basic morals of life and remember when you think you have it tough, be blessed that you had a meal for the day and you are healthy!
Many people in this life are not so fortunate.

Colin Rest in Peace, a dear friend and like a 2nd father to me!

We often reminisce.
Colin welcomed our family to Beeny over 50 years ago!
I have fond memories of the long hot summers driving the tractor and bringing in straw and hay bales from the fields. Also on several occasions riding in his pride and joy the Aston Martin DB6.
His presence will be missed.
