Biography:

Anthony was a charismatic fellow who always brought a smile to your face. He was warm, friendly and always late.

We will remember him for his love of Dad jokes and ale, his bear hugs and the way he made a room light up when he walked in.

He grew up by the sea and spent as much time as he could on or around boats. He always instilled in us a sensible level of fear of the sea, having found himself in more than his fair share of close shaves.

An avid sailor, he was a great supporter of the RLNI and all they stand for. For this reason, we ask that in lieu of any other gesture, please kindly donate what you can in Anthony’s name, to the RNLI using the link above.

Though dementia took his voice, it never took his smile or spirit and those stayed with him until the end.

Much loved Husband, Dad and Grandad ❤️

Sadly, I never got to know Anthony although I was enormously fond of his mother and father. Molly, who was my father’s cousin, had the Petrie trait of a great sense of humour and it is clear that Anthony inherited that. With sympathy and best wishes.

Although I only met Anthony after he’d been diagnosed with dementia, it was clear that he was a lovely gentleman. Always very dapper, with a cheeky smile and a great sense of humour. It was a pleasure to have known him, albeit not for long enough. I’ll be thinking of Alyson and your family on Thursday. Sending you all my love. Gabrielle x

From Jukka and Anne
Anthony was loyal and dear friend who was a a fantastic support and mentor in all things related to IAT. But most importantly he was a real Gentle-Man who will be missed by all who knew him.

My favourite memory of times in Morts company were Friday nights beer in the mid 80's, after work at ARC SE Surfacing, at the Bull in Wrotham. We found so much to laugh about despite the weeks trials and tribulations! RIP Mort!

I first met Anthony at an “airline” party in approximately 1974. It transpired that we had grown up within about 1/4 of a mile from each other, and our mothers were friends, we had some friends in common but had never met until then! Fast forward 3 years later and Anthony was best man at my wedding to a close friend of his, then godfather to my son Oliver. Anthony met his soon to be lovely wife Alyson and I have such happy memories of much fun and many laughs together.
Anthony, you were a very special person, kind, caring, loyal and with a tremendous sense of humour…Rest in Peace.

I first met Anthony in 1971 in London before working with him in Brunei on Brunei International Airport for Tarmac Roadstone laying the asphalt surface. He was the senior supervisor and I looked after the office. Both of us and another colleague Gerry lived together on site in a converted portacabin. We again worked together in Hongkong on various contracts. We knew each other well and he and Alyson came to my wedding in 1988. We have kept in touch through Christmas cardsbut we had not see each other for some time.

  • Thank you Colin, he often told us stories of his time in Brunei and Hong Kong. It was a very happy era for him and he missed the adventures once he settled down. Best wishes, Felicity
